An elderly tourist from the US died after she got into difficulties snorkelling, police announced on Thursday.
The police said that shortly before 2:50pm on Tuesday, 11 Feb. they received a report of a woman in distress on board a marine vessel that was heading to shore at the South Terminal in George Town.
The woman, 73, had been out snorkelling when she encountered difficulties and was assisted on board the vessel, police said.
The crew administered oxygen to the woman, who lost consciousness while being taken to shore. Emergency Medical Services met the vessel and administered CPR to the woman, who was taken by ambulance to George Town Hospital.
She was subsequently pronounced dead by the attending doctor.
