The weekend saw two more violent incidents Saturday night and into Sunday morning, the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service said in a news release.
In the first incident, residents at a property in West Bay were robbed by a gang of masked men.
Police officers were called to an address on Powery Road in West Bay just after 11pm after receiving a report that three masked men, one of whom was believed to be carrying a firearm, had entered the property, robbed the occupants of the residence of cash and other valuables, and then fled the location.
In a statement, police said that no shots were fired and no one was injured in the incident.
The suspects are described as being short and of dark complexion. They were masked, and dressed in dark clothing.
The West Bay robbery on Saturday came after a series of robberies and machete attacks by masked men in George Town on Friday night.
Police told the Compass, “We have no reason to suspect the incidents are connected at this time.”
West Bay beach stabbing
In a separate incident, a man was stabbed on West Bay Public Beach following an argument with another man.
Shortly before 12:15am on Sunday morning, officers were conducting a vehicle checkpoint at the Yacht Drive roundabout in West Bay when a vehicle approached the checkpoint with its hazard lights on.
Officers discovered that one of the occupants had what appeared to be a serious wound to the midsection and was being transported to hospital. A police vehicle escorted the vehicle to Cayman Islands Hospital, where the victim was admitted for treatment.
Enquiries revealed that the victim had been at the West Bay Public Beach when an altercation took place with another man, who stabbed him in the midsection.
The suspect, 37, was later found at an address in West Bay, where he was arrested on suspicion of assault, GBH and possession of an offensive weapon. He remains in custody as investigations continue.
The victim of the attack remains in hospital in serious but stable condition.
Both incidents are currently under investigation by West Bay CID. Anyone with any information is asked to contact 949-3999.
