Police are investigating a series of robberies and machete attacks that occurred Friday night which sent at least one man to the hospital. 

The first incident took place at about 7:25pm on Friday evening, when officers responded to a report of an attempted robbery and wounding at an address on Holme’s Turn, George Town, the RCIPS said in a news release. 

A group of masked men with machetes attacked a man and ransacked the yard before leaving the scene. The man received injuries to his hand and arm and attended the Cayman Islands Hospital for treatment. He has since been discharged.

Less than an hour later, shortly before 8:20pm, the police said they responded to a report of a robbery at a barber shop on Eastern Avenue in George Town, near the intersection with School Road. 

Masked men entered the location brandishing machetes and demanded cash from the occupants, police said. The men fled the location with cash and personal items, travelling in a ‘small vehicle’.

One man received a minor injury during the incident, which did not require medical attention.

In a third incident the same evening, police officers were called to a convenience store on Prospect Drive at 8:40pm following reports of a robbery on the premises.

Three masked men with machetes entered the location and stole a quantity of cash from the register before fleeing the location.

One man was struck by a machete and received minor injuries. He was treated on the scene by EMS personnel.

These incidents are currently under investigation by George Town CID. Anyone with any information is asked to contact 949-4222.

The RCIPS is advising business owners to consider implementing security measures, such as electronic locks, a CCTV system, silent alarms, and proper lighting. These security measures should also be monitored and maintained to ensure they remain effective.
