Drivers are being advised to avoid the centre of George Town this weekend due to temporary road closures that are likely to lead to traffic congestion.

Essential paving and restriping work will be carried out on Saturday and Sunday as part of the George Town Revitalisation Initiative (GTRI), which is reaching its final stages.

Temporary traffic restrictions will be in place between 7pm on Saturday 15 Feb. until 1pm on Sunday 16 Feb., according to a news release from the Ministry of Planning, Agriculture, Housing, Infrastructure, Transport and Development.

Motorists are advised to use alternative routes and allow extra travel time during that period.

Edward Street will be entirely closed, while Main Street will be partially closed at the end.

Road paving will begin on Saturday evening and continue overnight to minimise disruptions to traffic and businesses.

On Sunday morning, the National Roads Authority (NRA) will begin road restriping and finalise markings.

During this period, temporary traffic restrictions will be in effect, and motorists are advised to use alternative routes and allow extra travel time. Traffic diversions will be in place, and signage will be posted to guide motorists.
