Search continues for missing Compass Media journalist

As of Thursday afternoon, Compass Media journalist Andrel Harris remains missing.

Harris, 34, of Hirst Road, Newlands, was reported missing on Wednesday after not attending work that day. Police said in a press release on Wednesday that he was last seen in the area of Pedro Castle Road, Bodden Town, at approximately 9:30pm, Tuesday, 3 June.

On Thursday afternoon, the police also issued a ‘missing person alert‘ on social media about Harris and a meeting was scheduled for 3pm at Cayman Islands Baptist Church for people involved in the search efforts. A volunteer signup sheet was distributed online for people interested in contributing to the search efforts.

Thursday’s missing person alert advised the public that no photos or videos are permitted while assisting with the search.

The police requested that anyone who has seen Harris or knows of his whereabouts to call 911 or the Bodden Town Police Station at 947-2220. On Thursday, police added two more telephone numbers people could call if they had any information about his whereabouts: 945-4624 or 949-6555.

Police said Harris was last seen wearing a dark blue shirt with rolled-up sleeves and black pants. He is approximately 5′ 9″ tall, of slim build with dark brown complexion, and has long, neatly kept dreadlocks, a press release stated.

Searches for Harris began Wednesday and continued on Thursday. Police have carried out both ground and aerial searches, and coastal searches in the Pedro Castle Road area in search of Harris. In addition to the multi-agency police approach, family and community members came out in significant numbers to assist with the search for the Compass Media journalist.

Harris’s sister, Lani Watson, issued a statement on Instagram on Thursday on behalf of the family.

“It is with deep concern and heavy hearts that I share that my beloved brother is currently missing. This is an incredibly difficult time for our family, and we are doing everything within our power to locate him and bring him home safely,” she wrote.

“We are actively working in close coordination with the coastal search and rescue teams, air support and police authorities. Their tireless efforts and dedication in the search are deeply appreciated and we remain hopeful as the investigation continues.

“We ask for privacy as we navigate this painful and uncertain time, and we kindly urge anyone who may have information to come forward and assist the authorities.”

Compass Media issued a statement on Wednesday night:

“We have been working closely with the RCIPS throughout the day as the search continues. Our thoughts and prayers remain with Andrel and his loved ones during this difficult time.

“We encourage anyone in the public who may have information to please contact the police using the details below.

“We are deeply grateful for the tireless efforts of the RCIPS, Andrel’s family, friends and the wider community. We will continue to support the search in every way we can, while respecting the privacy of his family and assisting the authorities.”
