A former Health Services Authority doctor is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, 26 Aug., charged with manslaughter.
The man was arrested in September last year, on suspicion of manslaughter by reason of gross negligence in relation to an incident that occurred on 21 Jan. 2024.
The Royal Cayman Islands Police Service issued a statement on Friday, saying the man, who police did not name, had now been formally charged and would appear in Summary Court Tuesday.
Shortly after that, the Health Services Authority released a statement saying it was aware of the criminal charge being brought against “a practitioner who previously worked at the Authority”.
It added, “While we cannot comment on the matter, we wish to reassure the public that the HSA has and will continue to maintain strict requirements for all practitioners, including a comprehensive credentialing process, which includes independent verification of qualifications, licensing with the Cayman Islands Medical and Dental Council, and review by HSA’s senior medical staff before practicing at our facilities.
“Our focus remains on delivering safe, high-quality healthcare to the people of the Cayman Islands.”
