Cayman Customs officers have seized four firearms, ammunition and ganja hidden in a shipment from the US.
The service said two people had also been arrested in connection with the incident and that inquiries continued.
Bruce Smith, the director of customs and border control, said, “This interception underscores the critical role CBC plays in safeguarding our borders and protecting our communities.
“Our officers remain vigilant and continue to take decisive action against those who seek to introduce firearms and illegal drugs into the Cayman Islands.”
The service said the contraband, including 3 pounds of the drug, was intercepted during “routine border control processes” on Thursday, 18 Dec.
Officials said customs personnel continued to work closely with on-island and international agencies to disrupt cross-border crime and prevent firearms and illegal substances from getting into Cayman.
A spokesman added that anyone with information related to firearms, drug trafficking or other crime should contact the customs and border control hotline at 1-800-534-2546. Anonymous tip-offs can be made through Cayman Crime Stoppers at 800-TIPS (8477)
