The Cayman Islands Darts Association is set to host the annual Edsell Haylock Memorial Darts Tournament.
With a 7pm start at Mango Tree Restaurant on 7 March, the event serves as both a competitive open tournament and a fundraiser to honour the legacy of Edsell Haylock, the Cayman Islands’ 2008 Caribbean Darts Championship gold medalist.
Haylock, along with two other men and two boys, were reported missing on 6 March 2016 after they left for 12 Mile Bank on a fishing trip. To this day, none of the five persons have been found.
This year’s event is structured to provide financial support to Haylock’s daughter, Bellalisa, and the national association.
“The annual tournament will continue to be held until Bellalisa Haylock turns 18,” said Kruse Smith from the Cayman Islands Darts Association.
“This year, the proceeds of the tournament will be donated to her, and the proceeds of the raffle will go to the association to assist with travel and preparation costs for the national team’s trip to the Caribbean Darts Championship in the Bahamas this July,” Smith added.

Tournament format
Smith confirmed that this year’s Memorial Darts Tournament features a Double-In, Double-Out knockout format, requiring players to both begin and end each leg on a double. This structure increases the technical difficulty of the matches.
As an open tournament, there are no separate divisions for gender, meaning male and female players compete directly against one another.
“By testing themselves against the men in this open format, our female players gain the experience and challenge necessary to sharpen their game. This environment is an essential part of their preparation for the Caribbean Darts Championship,” Smith said.
Participation in the singles and “luck of the draw” doubles categories requires a $25 entry fee, which applies to both association members and the general public.
While there is a cost to compete, the event is free for spectators to attend. In addition to the matches, the evening will include a raffle for various prizes.
Smith noted that national team tryouts are currently in progress as the association looks to finalise the men’s and women’s rosters for the Cayman Islands within the next few weeks.
