Flag football is about to return to the hearts and minds of Cayman’s children.
The Security Centre Youth Flag Football League is slated to commence 3 March, 2012. The competition has been ongoing for a number of years at the Camana Bay sports field.
League coordinator Kyle Broadhurst states the league is appealing for more players and teams.
“We hope that you will join us once again to celebrate one of the fastest growing sports on the Island,” Broadhurst said. “We are very excited about this upcoming season.
“The league has grown from 130 children the first season, to 180 children in the second and last year we had over 230 players. We anticipate further growth this year. It is only through donations of the time of volunteers and the financial donations of the sponsors that this league is made possible.”
The upcoming competition is organized every year by the Cayman Islands Flag Football Association, a nonprofit organization dedicated to expanding the sport of flag football in Cayman. Youth league action is usually split into division according to age groups, with competitors being as young as seven and as old as 17.
In the past, the league has attracted young athletic talent like David Lee, Dylan Bostock and Sean McField. Those young men, for example, engage in other sports like cricket, hockey and Little League baseball.
Registration forms are currently available. A special appeal is being made for more coaches and volunteers (contact Jamal Young at [email protected]) and more team sponsors (contact Justin Miller at [email protected]).
