Recognition of those who have made an above and beyond contribution to Cayman’s tourism industry will take place at the ninth annual Cayman Stingray Tourism Awards, which is scheduled on Tuesday, 26 June, at The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman.
“The Cayman Islands Tourism Association believes that service excellence is the tourism and hospitality industry’s greatest asset. It is because of outstanding service that visitors choose to stay longer, tell their friends about Cayman and subsequently visit us again and that is good for the Cayman Islands” said Jane van der Bol, executive director. She went on to say that outstanding hospitality was best described as ‘a random act of kindness that goes above and beyond the expected to meet the needs of an individual’
The Nominee
Cayman Islands Tourism Association businesses can nominate for Manager and Employee of the year awards in the following sectors:
• Accommodations
• Transportation
• Watersports
• Restaurant
• Allied sectors (Allied includes Retail, Services, Media and Arts and Entertainment)
Other special recognition awards are the Rising Star Award and Lifetime Achievement Awards in Tourism.
Nomination forms and to rules and regulations are available on the association’s website. The most important part of nominating someone, said the association, is not just to submit the person’s name but to be as detailed as possible with the nomination. The award selection committee carefully considers the nominations and chooses the winners based solely on the submitted information. The more detailed a nomination is, the better chance the nominee has to win, said the association The deadline for nominations to be received by the association is Wednesday, 30 May at 5pm.
The Gala Dinner to Honour Nominees
The CITA Cayman Stingray Tourism Award Gala Dinner is a special evening of celebration to recognize the nominees. Every nominee is a winner because they have offered the best service to their guests.
“It is a wonderful opportunity for employees to shine. They have an opportunity to dress up and meet other outstanding individuals within their industry,” said Rod McDowall of the Cayman Islands Tourism Association’s Education and Training Committee.
The Award
The Cayman Stingray Tourism Awards are the highest honour bestowed by the CITA in recognition of individuals who have offered the greatest contribution in the well-being of the Cayman Islands tourism industry throughout the year. The recipients are honoured with a cobalt blue hand blown glass stingray award made right here in the Cayman Islands at the Island Glass Blowing Studio. The award is inscribed with the recipient’s name, the award category for which they received the award and the
year. The Stingray Award recipients also receive a photo of the evening as well as a certificate. In addition the winner’s picture and story of their outstanding service they have provided will be published in Caymanian Compass newspaper.
The Cayman Stingray Tourism Awards Gala Dinner tickets are available for purchase through the CITA office for $85 CI and a table of 10 at $800CI ([email protected] or 949-8522). This year, attendees of the gala dinner are eligible to win door prizes.
