Last chance to fund Olympians

With the London Olympics only two months away, every cent raised for the athletes going out there is vital, which is why support for the final fundraising event is of the utmost importance.

The Luncheon at Windsor Castle is a Cayman Islands Olympic Fundraising event and tickets are $125. It also coincides with the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebration and is at Abacus, Camana Bay, on 2 June from noon to 3pm. A Kate Middleton look-a-like is lined up along with Miss Cayman Islands and other models.

This is the latest in a line of great themed events with the organising committee headed by Betty Baraud who has raised hundreds of thousands for Cayman’s Olympians over two decades. Previous themes have included Royal Ascot and Rolling the Dice.

Along with the superb food, champagne, wine and fabulous company and over the top celebration, it promises to be an afternoon of fun and laughter, while building hope for gold for Cayman’s five athletes who have qualified for the Olympics that begin on 27 July.

They are swimming brothers Shaune and Brett Fraser and track athletes Cydonie Mothersill in the women’s 200m, Ronald Forbes in the men’s 110m hurdles and Kemar Hyman in the men’s 100m.

Betty Baraud said: “The Ritz-Carlton has also given us a brunch for four, a fantastic auction item which we’re really grateful for.”

Following lunch, at 5pm, the organising committee for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Celebration will present a flotilla of decorated and well lit boats and fireworks in Hog Sty Bay and parents are encouraged to bring along their children to participate in sailing these tiny boats, made especially for kids.
