The concert is also a chance to reflect on 20 years of gigs promoted by YoungBlood Productions. Notch looks back on some of the memorable moments.
“They have all been special to me,” Notch muses.
“The first one was a soca event in what is now Rackam’s. We’ve always strived to put our concerts on in ambient Caribbean settings so the people can love the nature and the environment as well as the music. I don’t like concerts indoors in cold aesthetic environments.
“Beres Hammond at Safehaven Links was memorable as was Maxi Priest at Kaibo, Third World and Freddie McGregor at the Treehouse, too.
“I’ve always played at these concerts as a musician. Performing in front of a concert crowd is different to performing in a club but you won’t get that kind of concert experience in Cayman if the promoters locally aren’t exposing you to it.
“I find that instead of waiting for others to expose you to it I take myself to it which is important to me as an artist, which is what I am first and foremost,” says Notch, who wears many hats in order to facilitate that and to elevate art in general.
“With YoungBlood shows we have always tried to share that mass exposure opportunity with budding artists. We have never been selfish or clique-ish. Cayman is too small for that and you will not build a music industry like that.”
