Authorities intercept drug vessel

A drug smuggling vessel was intercepted and seized Wednesday on the beach in South Sound resulting in two arrests, law enforcement officials said. Three three suspects were still on the run as of Thursday, they said.

A multi-agency operation involving local Law Enforcement Agencies and Jamaican authorities resulted in two resident arrests and the recovery of a “significant amount of marijuana” and a vehicle near the South Sound cemetery.

Royal Cayman Island Police Service officers are asking for the public’s assistance to locate the three remaining suspects who are believed to have been crew on the vessel. Officers said the suspects would be looking for food, shelter and clothing.

The RCIPS has reminded the public it is an Immigration offense to assist an individual to land or depart illegally from the Cayman Islands.
