Super-kids at pyjama party

The largest gathering of super-heroes and princesses surely ever seen in the Cayman Islands met last Monday just before their bedtimes, for the Week of the Young Child (WOYC) story-time pillow-party.

Parents accompanied the pyjama-clad children to the Books and Books courtyard in Camana Bay. There they heard stories from some of the best: Ms Donna Tull-Cox and Mr Glen Soul. Older children read-along as pages turned on a giant projection screen.

Scores of kids received pillowcases to decorate, along with dreamtime staples, cookies and milk.

Books were also on hand as donations for other children to enjoy and the WOYC Book Drive will continue through Saturday 31 May. Gifts of new or gently-used children’s books will be welcomed at Books and Books, at Hobbies and Books in Grand Harbour and Piccadilly Square, and at public libraries in George Town, Bodden Town and East End.

The focus of this year’s WOYC is the close correlation between children, their families and their communities. This year’s calendar includes a reception hosted by the Governor Stuart Jack. Open Days will take place at all pre-schools today, 18 April, as well as a free Dart Park Movie Night – also today. A fun morning, including a free family breakfast, is scheduled for Saturday at the Mary Miller Memorial Hall.

This tenth annual event is again spearheaded by the Early Childhood Services, within the Education Services, and working with the Department of Children and Family Services, and other organisations. WOYC activities are also being planned in the Sister Islands by Early Childhood Development Officer April Tibbetts, to start 21 April.
