Parker starts well

Cayman’s young fast bowler Dale Parker was in fine form for the Americas Development XI Under-15 team over the weekend.

The 15-year-old John Gray pupil took two wickets in four overs against Kenya.

Man-of-the-Match was Nitish Kumar who blasted Kenya and fired the Americas Development XI into the semi-finals of the knockout phase of the CLICO International Under-15 Championship on Sunday.

Kumar grabbed three for 14 in a fine 10-over spell to reduce Kenya from 86 for three to 133 all out off 46 overs and the Americas XI reached their target in a canter, scoring 134 for four off 37.3 overs.

Batting first after winning the toss at the Police Sports Club at Weymouth, Barbados, Kenya seemed on course for a big total with Emmanuel Bundi (22) and Kennedy Owino (15) seemingly well entrenched.

But Kumar accounted for Bundi and then also claimed Rajiv Sutaria (1) and Bhavya Thaker (2) to put the Kenyan innings in strife. Devesh Patel was the only other batsman to reach double figures with 15 as Kenya lost their last seven wickets for 47 runs.

Joshua Gilbert supported with two for 11 while Parker, who accounted for openers Fajay Semanayake (13) and Emmanuel Juma (12), finished with two for 29. Trevor Manoosingh chipped in with two for 37.

In their turn at the crease, the Americas XI stumbled early on at 32 for two but Gilbert stroked an unbeaten 43 to steer his side to victory. Stephen Taylor got 26.

In today’s semis in St Kitts, the Americas XI will take on West Indies who beat Malaysia by 146 runs on Saturday.
