From Hazard Management Cayman Islands’ Joint Communications Services
1. Distribution Centre
* Starting today, there will be one distribution centre, located adjacent to Aston Rutty Centre.
* Operating hours are 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
* Supplies include toiletries; baby supplies; water and drinks; non-perishable food; batteries; and flashlights.
2. Tarps
* No more tarps are needed in Cayman Brac or Little Cayman. The Brac Command Centre, which is coordinating the recovery response on both islands, thanks the public for their donations.
3. Proper consignment
* Supplies being sent to Cayman Brac and Little Cayman must be clearly labelled with the name and address of the person, or agency, to which the supplies are consigned.
4. Voluntary organisations’ assistance
* The Cayman Islands Red Cross, ADRA (Adventist Disaster Relief Agency), and First Baptist Church of Stake Bay have contacted government, and subsequently been included in the coordinated recovery response. The three community agencies are now assisting with the distribution of goods and rebuilding efforts.
5. Little Cayman
* Some power has been restored to Little Cayman.
* A barge was scheduled to leave Grand Cayman last night, in order to ensure a steady supply of gasoline.
6. Cayman Brac Power & Light
* Crews began working last night to restore power to central services such as Faith Hospital, and District Administration.
* Because the crews are working at all hours, motorists are asked to drive with caution.
7. Health Services Authority
* Inpatient services are available at Aston Rutty Centre.
* Outpatient services, including general practice care such as immunisations, are available at Faith Hospital from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
* For emergencies, call 911.
* For appointments, call 916-8672 or 925-9980.
8. Water Authority
* Tanker deliveries of water are continuing.
* Also, water tankers will be stationed at Spot Bay Primary School and Watering Place Post Office. Between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m., each resident can bring one container with a maximum capacity of 10 gallons or less, and have it filled with water, for free.
9. Fire Services
* Fire Services are fully operational, with assistance from additional staff from Grand Cayman.
10. Gerrard Smith International Airport
* The airport is almost fully operational, with electronic processing of arrivals and departures.
11. Generator Availability and Safety
* Generator supplies continue to be sourced. Meanwhile Sister Island residents who urgently require it should call 925-6262 to request temporary use of a generator. Callers should leave clear contact information including, name, contact number and address.
* As soon as power is restored to residents using loaned generators, they should arrange to return them to the distribution center so that others in turn can obtain temporary relief.
* Residents are reminded to use generators safely. This includes:
* Following the instructions that come with your generator.
* Never operating a generator indoors
* Never storing gasoline or other fuels indoors, or near fuel-burning appliances such as natural-gas water heaters.
* Always turn off the generator before refuelling.
