The local netball season is set to start this weekend.
The 2008 senior women’s netball league will begin tomorrow.
Barring rain, the netball courts at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex will host the opening activities and the majority of games throughout the season.
All the festivities are set to get underway at 4pm.
Among the activities set for Saturday is the uniform parade. The parade is a pageantry of colours and team spirit that is meant to invigorate the players and captivate the crowd.
Schools, from primary up to high school, teams and clubs are expected to be out in force.
The opening was set to take place last Saturday. Due to the re-scheduling of the Pirates Week landing and other activities for that day the opening was postponed.
The Cayman Islands Netball Association, under President Lucille Seymour, will be hosting and supervising the event. In addition officials from the Ministry of Education and Sports are slated to be in attendance.
A number of prizes will be awarded to teams in different categories. Some of those awards will include best uniform, the march past and behaviour. Volunteers are also set to receive prizes on the day.
Cayman Islands Netball Association member Cheryl Glasgow said the opening was changed in an effort to give netball the biggest stage possible.
Glasgow also said that the change was also made to give all relevant parties extra time to prepare their uniforms.
Glasgow recently served as chief statistician for the recent CINA Mixed League competition.
That league was set to come to a close on Tuesday night after a number of weather-related cancellations had dragged out the season.
The results from that match will be published shortly.
The next big event for the senior women’s league will be a netball rally on Saturday 29 November.
