The Mustang track club will be travelling to Kingston, Jamaica on the weekend of Friday 20 February to compete in the UWI track and field meet on Saturday 21 February at the national stadium.
Fifteen athletes will make the trip including Coach Tyrone Yen and manager Sabrina Wright. This meet will serves as a development meet and also as a Carifta Games qualifier for some.
Three of the athletes has already made the qualifying standard set out by the Cayman Island Athletic Association namely Travis Webb in high jump, Ashleigh Nalty in high jump and Chantelle Morrison in 100m and 200m.
Travis was the lone medallist at last year’s games, having won a bronze in the boys U17 high jump. Chantelle was also a finalist in the U17 girls 100m and Ashleigh managed a fifth place finish in the girls u17 high jump.
The Carifta Games are held annually over the Easter holidays and showcase the Caribbean’s top U17 and U20 athletes. This year edition will be held in St. Lucia and competition among the countries is slated to be of a high standard once again.
