Aussies get ‘Ashes’

The real Ashes series is just about
to start in Australia between the host nation and England, so Cayman staged its
own mini-Ashes match between two sides from Greenies Cricket Club.

The 2010 Challenge Trophy got off
to an interesting start at the Smith Road Oval last week. Australia and the
English and Irish Lions set about getting the edge in an exciting 20/20 game.
Ian Rotsey and Craig Scott opened for the English but did not impress. It was
left to Jerry Beck who top scored with 18 and took 2-16. Tail ender Ivan Burges
batted stoically to score a magnificent single run, the greatest one-run
display in Cayman history.

The Lions were restricted to 91 for
9 by some extremely economical bowling. Leading the way were Matt Glyde and Tom
Stephens. The Australian batsmen Brett Dwyer and Jamie Ware destroyed the
English bowling. The Aussies scored 92 for 6 in 16.1 overs to win by four wickets.
