Coors Light to championship

Pat Haag’s mishandled grounder
scored Michael Carey as the Coors Light Chuggers came from behind to defeat
KPMG A 8-7 in extra innings Tuesday night in adult co-ed softball action at the
Field of Dreams.

The victory sends the Chuggers to
their first A-League championship game Thursday night against Kirk Freeport.
The teams split their regular season series a game apiece.

The game against KPMG A was close
all the way. Trailing 2-0, the Chuggers tied the game in the bottom of the
third inning and then took a 3-2 lead in the fourth inning.  But KPMG A scored two in the fifth to go back
on top 4-3.

The Chuggers answered with three
runs in the bottom of the fifth, but KPMG came back to score two in the sixth
to tie the game at 7-7. A scoreless seventh sent the game into extra innings
and KPMG A tallied one run with the Chuggers couldn’t complete a double
play.

But Coors Light wasn’t to be
denied. With Mark Wallace on second and no one out, Michael Carey doubled him
home, leaving the stage for Haag’s game-winning grounder.

The Chuggers/Kirk Freeport match-up
in the final means that there will be a new champion in the A-league for the
first time since 2005. Kirk Freeport defeated eight-time defending champion Home
Gas 22-16 last Thursday in another dramatic game that took two extra innings to
settle.
