Permission has been granted to extend the licensed front area outside Singh’s Roti Shop by the Liquor Licensing Board of Grand Cayman following issues of concern that had been tackled by the owner.
Mrs. Vera Kissoon of Singh’s Roti Shop, Shedden Road was also granted permission for an alteration of the interior, which includes the relocation of the bar.
This is following the most recent meeting of the Liquor Licensing Board on Thursday at Custom’s Headquarters.
The application had previously not been granted at December’s meeting. Since then certain measures have been taken to address concerns the board had.
Attorney for the applicant Mr. Clyde Allen referred to a letter from the board to Mrs. Kissoon with regard to the parking issue.
Mr. Allen said that the Planning Department had deemed 18 spaces adequate for the premises.
Mrs. Kissoon confirmed that 18 parking spaces are available for customers of the roti shop after 5pm, while 13 are available before 5pm.
Mr. Allen also noted that a contract has been entered into with a security company whereby security is provided in the evenings at the premises.
In answer to a question from board member Bernice Richards, he said that the security being in place would help ensure that people cannot leave the premises with any alcohol.
Another concern of the board’s previously had been litter, said Mr. Allen.
The food premises inspector had visited and passed the restaurant on everything.
A request has been made to the Department of Environmental Health for refuse containers.
There aren’t any in stock, but will be made available immediately when they arrive.
There are refuse containers outside the premises, but they would like some more, he said.
Mrs. Kissoon said that someone keeps stealing the trash cans.
‘She needs to find a way of securing them,’ Mr. Allen said, ‘but then the difficulty is in emptying them. We’re trying to resolve that issue,’ he said.
He also asked that the board indicate how high they want the surrounding fence to go, and it would be set to a suitable height.
Board member Craig Nixon advised that a planning officer at the Building Control Unit could advise on this.
However, Liquor Inspector Donald Green said he had brought the fence height to the attention of the board and asked that after Planning’s recommendation, that he be advised before it is built.
Chairman of the Board Mitchell Welds asked if there had been any complaints about the parking situation.
Mr. Allen said there hadn’t but that the board had pointed out that parking had taken place in areas it shouldn’t. Security will help with this situation, he said.
Mr. Welds also asked if anyone had pointed out that patrons had parked at adjacent property.
Mrs. Kissoon said they had, but her attorney pointed out that security would ensure that there won’t be any parking in certain other areas.
