Boatswain’s summer camp a hit

Families looking for a fun and educational treat for their kids this summer holiday found it at Boatswain’s Beach Summer Camp.

Boatswain’s Beach, in conjunction with Cayman Traditional Arts, offered a fun-packed summer for children seven to 12, which proved to be a hit.

Kids enjoyed arts and crafts each morning with CTA on Cayman Street. Activities included learning about the rich culture of the islands and creating cultural items such as wompas, gigs and kites.

Selected artwork completed by the children will be exhibited at the second annual CTA Children’s Art Exhibit in September at The Gallery of the Ritz Carlton Grand Cayman.

Every afternoon the campers explored the many adventures of Boatswain’s Beach including the turtles on the Farm and the marine life in Boatswain’s Lagoon. They also learned about the cultural significance of the local fauna growing in the Blue Hole Nature Trail, interacted with all the exotic Caribbean birds in the Caribbean Aviary and enjoyed swimming at Breaker’s Lagoon.

Sasha Frederick, Education Programmes Officer, received positive feedback from the campers and is excited to see the success next year’s summer camp will bring.

Little Beth Turnbull, excitedly told Ms. Frederick, ‘I really liked the painting and the art; I also really liked the instructors.’

Another camper, Ashley Virgin, commented, ‘I like the Nature Trail because we learned about how Caymanians used the plants to survive and make so many different things.’

‘The crafts and painting were fun and Mr. Chris’ scary stories on the Nature Trail were great,’ saidPolly Serpell. Little Cameron Galloway added. ‘I loved swimming in the pool. I learned how to swim better and I liked the painting.’
