Steel band on the road again

Pandemonium Steel Jamm Band will be on the road again this Pirates Week thanks to support from Digicel.

A recent donation by the telecommunications company is intended to rebuild the float the band used in past Pirates Week parades, said a Digicel press release.

The float was badly damaged in 2004 by Hurricane Ivan and has since been out of commission..

Thanks to the support of Digicel and other local businesses, repairs to the float have begun and it is anticipated that it will be in full operation just in time for the 2006 Pirates Week parade taking place on 11 November.

‘I would like to thank Digicel for their generous support,’ said Pandemonium Steel Jamm Band organizer Michael Le May.

‘Through their donation we have been able to purchase plywood, steel, paint and nails, all of which will be used to reconstruct the entire float. We hope that all repairs will be completed within the next couple of weeks so that we can take part in the Pirates Week festivities once again.’

Digicel Senior Marketing Executive Gemma Mclaughlin said the compa ny – a title sponsor of Pirates Week – was happy to contribute.

‘We think it is especially important to add music and excitement to the parade, and also to showcase some of our most talented young local musicians.’
