Five people were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol during an RCIPS operation last Sunday, 15 October.
A 26-year-old woman, a 17-year-old woman and three men, aged, 30, 40 and 41, were taken into custody after giving positive breath tests.
One of the drivers blew just over four times the legal limit, another blew three and a half times the legal limit and a third blew just over double the legal limit.
‘It is particularly disappointing to see people are still risking their lives and the lives of others in this way,’ Commissioner of Police, said Police Commissioner Stuart Kernohan.
‘Despite numerous warnings, there appears to be a small group of motorists who continue to drive after drinking. Drink driving costs lives and livelihoods. Not only could you kill yourself or someone else, a drink driving conviction could lose you your job.’
The RCIPS will continue with both high visibility patrols and the use of the unmarked police cars to target those who continue to flout the law and drive while inebriated, stated a press release.
