With crab season under way, the RCIP wants to ensure the safety of anyone catching crabs.
Crabbers are advised of the following:
• Where appropriate, park vehicles away from main roads and dim the lights. It is imperative that unattended vehicles can be seen by other road users and do not cause obstruction or danger to others.
• Police recommend that flashlights be carried at all times, and light-coloured clothing be worn to boost visibility at dusk and after dark.
• Children must be supervised at all times by parents or responsible adults.
• Drivers should be extra vigilant after dark, especially in the eastern districts. Motorists should be aware that people are searching for crabs near main thoroughfares.
• Crabbers should also exercise extreme care and vigilance when seeking crabs near busy roadways. Be aware of the presence of other road users at all times.
