Finishing touches are being put on the report coming out of the national education conference held earlier this month.
The document, a National Consensus on Education, is to be tabled in the Legislative Assembly on 7 October.
A four-person committee is now making final tweaks to the document in advance of Education Minister Alden McLaughlin’s review and finalisation before tabling in the Legislature, said press release from the Ministry.
‘There are some clear messages from the delegates, and we have been very faithful in incorporating the consensus of the conference, as well as some minority views,’ said Permanent Secretary for Education Angela Martins, who is chairing the committee.
Minister McLaughlin said that the report would reflect the consensus of the people. ‘We have received a clear mandate from the people.’
He said that he envisaged that once the report was accepted, some recommendations would be implement immediately.
The next step following the debate in the House would be the incorporation of legislators’ views and the drafting of an implementation plan, he added.
Other reporting committee members are Deputy PS Mary Rodrigues, School Inspectorate Chief Helena McVeigh and Education Conference chairman Gareth Long.
