Students assist local family

Students at Savannah Primary School traded uniforms for jeans and T-shirts to support a worthy cause on Friday.

The dress down day was to raise money for medical expenses incurred by a past student, Daniel Morris, who recently passed away in Miami.

Principal Lorna Blackman said, ‘Students were instructed to take home a newsletter from the school which stated if students wanted to participate in the dress down day, they were to pay $2 in support of the cause.’

The $420 collected will be presented to the family during assembly today.

Two students went even further with their support; they collected $31 dollars on their own time.

Sisters Shanee and Shayna Mayorquin took their newsletter home to mom and, with the family, mixed up gallons of lemonade to sell.

With fresh limes picked from a neighbour’s yard the two girls went about their task.

Young Shayna said although business by the roadside was slow that did not stop them from knocking on people’s doors for their support.
