Spear gun licences

The Marine Conservation Board invites residents of Cayman Brac and Little Cayman to renew their spear gun licences next week. Officials will issue licences at the Department of Environment’s office in Creek, Cayman Brac on Wednesday, 28 September from 9am to 4pm and on Thursday, 29 September, from 9am to 1pm. They will be on Little Cayman at the DoE office in Blossom Village on Friday, 30 September, from 10am to 2pm. Applicants must take the following: A completed application form, a police record (six months old or newer), previous spear gun licence and the spear gun with all its parts. The applicant must appear in person and everyone should call 949-8469 to schedule an appointment. A $50 application fee is payable upon issue of the licence.

Lion fish culling

The Department of Environment is hosting a lion fish culling course on Cayman Brac Tuesday, 28 September. Anyone interested in helping control this invasive fish species should attend this free course to earn their lion fish culling licence. The course starts at 7pm in the District Administration Building’s conference room. For more information call DoE at 949-8469.

Harvest celebrations

Webster Memorial United Church in Bodden Town invites everyone to Harvest Celebrations and Thanksgiving Service at 11am Sunday. This service is intended to help celebrate the good things God has given us and to remember our dependence on Him.

Culture of honour

All are invited to attend the Praise Gathering of the Church of God Chapel congregations starting Sunday at The Family Life Centre, 10.30am and 7.30pm. Sessions continue Monday – Wednesday at the Sanctuary of the Church of God Chapel on Walkers Road, 7.30pm. Featured speaker is Pastor Troy Goode from Rhode Island, USA.

Cancer Society, Heart Fund

The Cancer Society and Heart Fund, along with Savannah United Church, invite the public to worship service at the Savannah United Church (behind Savannah Texaco) starting at 8:30am Sunday. There will be health presentations and free screenings. Fast for screenings; breakfast will be served afterwards.

Art and lunch

The National Gallery lecture series focuses on an aspect of the current exhibition Wednesday with speaker Wray Banker. Lecture is 12.15-12.45pm. Admission is $5 or free for members and includes a complimentary light lunch courtesy of Barnie’s Café. Contact Mona on [email protected] for information.
