The Intertrust Cayman Islands Marathon is approaching and organisers are reminding kids that they can be a part of the big event too by participating in the Kids Fun Run.
The Kids Fun Run is on Sunday 3 December and is sponsored once again by the Ministry of Health, Environment, Youth, Sport & Culture and MILO energy drink, and is open to children ages 6 to 12. Registration for up to 500 students is free and students can register online.
The race will begin at 10.30am from the new Government Administration Building on Elgin Avenue and children will run around half a mile to the finish line at Breezes by the Bay Restaurant where they will receive medals and be able to sample tasty MILO products.
MILO, which is distributed locally by Jacques Scott Group, plans to promote its ready-to-drink, cold products and do random drawings for numerous prizes including a bike. The company will also provide t-shirts and bags for the kids.
“We are so pleased to have MILO on board with us again for the Kids Fun Run,” said race director Rhonda Kelly. “Their participation last year significantly enhanced both the event and the kids’ race experience. We would like to thank both MILO and the Ministry for their continued support of this great activity for our children.”
A few changes are being made to the Kids Fun Run to make it even more exciting for participants. One of the improvements is the addition of a DJ from X107 who will play music at the start line and get the kids energised and ready to run. There is also talk of getting a fitness expert to take the kids through their stretches to prepare them for the run.
“Our goal this year is to make the Kids Fun Run even more exciting by creating a party atmosphere for the kids and really emphasising the fun aspect of the event,” explained Kelly. “We want kids to see that running and other physical activities can be enjoyable.”
Kelly encourages parents to sign their kids up for the Kids Fun Run and send a message to their children that a healthy lifestyle is important from a young age.
“It is never too early to get our children involved in activities that will promote a lifestyle of fitness and exercise. The fact is that our kids today lead a very sedentary lifestyle and it is important that we get them moving. The Kids Fun Run is an easy, non-competitive race. This is also a great opportunity for families to spend quality time together because parents can run their event which starts five and a half hours earlier and then support their children in their race.”
