Hellcats look good for third

The flag football season kicked off at the Ed Bush stadium in West Bay on Satuday and dms Hellcats resumed with the hunger to write more history.

Last year, they were the first team ever to repeat as champions. This time they are looking to continue that championship run.

The dms Hellcats nucleus has returned and they are the team least affected by free agency in the off season which saw a vast amount of players jumping ship or starting teams of their own.

Team rep and captain Adrean Russell said: “No amount of talent in the world can replace team chemistry. It is through playing as a team that we have this rare opportunity before us and it will only be through playing as a team that will have a chance come seasons end and playoff time to enshrine the dms Hellcats forever in the Cayman Islands Flag Football Association’s history books.”

Look for reigning league MVP Clay ‘Toast’ Coleman, star running back Oliver ‘Dark Star’ Parker, defensive phenomenon Damien ‘Beast’ Barboram and the gun slinging quarterback Jacob ‘Frecko’ Ebanks to be leading the charge for the dms Hellcats this season.

Coach George ‘Teddy’ Hydes is steering the ship again this year in the hopes of grasping that elusive three-peat championship title that eludes most of its seekers. Hydes said: “We only need to play Hellcat football. We do that and it will be there for the taking.”

And sure enough they confirmed that by beating new team Cox Lumber Colts 7-6 on Saturday. Rhys Ebanks scored for Cox and Parker replied for Hellcats with the extra point coming from Coleman.

Coach Hydes said: “It was a competitive match. Cox may be a new team but they’ve got a lot of talent and experience. We have some new players too in MIke Carey and Kevin Maxwell. They’ve replaced Chester Hurlstone and Taj Haye and will take a bit of time to work in.

“Everybody is after us so we are training harder than ever to stay ahead of the rest.”
