George Town Primary to reopen Monday

George Town Primary School, which has been shut since 14 Sept. due to a COVID outbreak, will reopen on Monday, the Ministry of Education announced.

“The George Town Primary will continue to offer online classes and will reopen for face-to-face classes on Monday, 4 October, for all students and staff who have been cleared by Public Health,” Education Minister Juliana O’Connor-Connolly said in a statement Thursday.

She added, “This will facilitate any reorganisation that may need to occur at the school prior to the resumption of face-to-face classes and allow staff and families the opportunity to tend to personal matters before the school reopens.”

Health officials announced on Wednesday evening that, of the 11 new cases of community transmission of COVID-19 in the latest results, six were related to George Town Primary.

The other five were associated with Prospect Primary School, which reopened today, 30 Sept. That school has been closed since Tuesday after a Year 6 student tested positive for COVID. Classmates and teachers of that student, along with their households, are remaining in quarantine for 14 days.

Households with positive cases will remain in isolation until they test negative, with the students studying remotely until they are cleared to return to school, officials said.

Both school are moving to the mandatory health and safety protocols outlined in the Ministry of Education’s COVID-19 Guidance for Educational Institutions.
