Cayman’s immigration boards, which include the Work Permit Board and the Caymanian Status and Permanent Residency Board, are yet to formally meet in their administrative capacity.
However, Workforce Opportunities and Residency Cayman Acting Director Laura Watler said applications are being dealt with at the department.
“In the interim the Department continues to adjudicate administratively on applications on a daily/weekly basis,” Watler said, as she confirmed sessions were not being held, in response to queries from the Cayman Compass about the status of board meetings.
She said the meetings are expected to resume in early November.
Watler said, in her emailed response, that the immigration boards met consistently this year, multiple times a week where they could until 30 Sept. 2021.
“At that point the Boards moved into a transition/on-boarding stage for newly appointed members. This means we are ensuring their understanding of their duties and familiarity with issues such as board governance and data protection to ensure the smooth functioning of the Board over the course of their term,” she said.
