Police arrested a 38-year-old West Bay man they found hiding in a shed during a drug raid in which several of the man’s dogs were also seized.
Officers arrived at the residence on Duxies Lane to execute a search warrant shortly after 3:15pm on Tuesday, accompanied by staff from the Department of Agriculture Animal Welfare Unit.
According to a statement from the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service, the DOA officers cleared the dogs from the yard of the house, to enable police to enter the premises safely.
A search was carried out by the K-9 Unit and a team of police officers. During that search, a police dog tracked the man to his hiding place in a shed by the house.
Inside the shed, officers located and seized several packages of ganja and drug paraphernalia.
The man was arrested on suspicion of possession of ganja with intent to supply, possession of drug utensils, and other drug-related offences. He remained in custody Wednesday.
Police said DOA officers seized several of the dogs at the residence, and an animal welfare investigation would be carried out regarding several violations observed in regards to their care.
