Those entering gyms and other indoor sporting facilities are no longer required to provide proof of vaccination or a negative PCR test.

Premier Wayne Panton announced the change at government’s COVID press briefing on Thursday, 17 Feb.

“Testing restrictions on gyms have also been lifted, which is quite important,” Panton said.

The previous restrictions, in place from last September, had received pushback from the fitness community at the time, with businesses pointing to a resulting loss of revenue.

Athletes who were unable to get vaccinated due to their age also found it difficult to train.

Panton said the easing of the restrictions, which comes into effect Friday, 18 Feb., came at a time when they will “positively impact our economic recovery”.

He added, “We believe relaxing these regulations will mean more business for gyms, and more children will be able to participate in outdoor sporting activities.”
