Four Cuban nationals are now in the custody of Customs and Border Control after arriving on Cayman Brac Wednesday night, officials have confirmed.
The Cubans, all males, arrived in Cayman Brac around 11:30pm, a CBC spokesperson said Thursday morning.
An official CBC statement on the arrival stated that the four Cubans disembarked the vessel and were being processed in accordance with CBC’s established protocols.
These latest arrivals, according to the figures released by CBC, takes the total number of Cubans under the supervision of immigration authorities to 177.
Almost half-a-million dollars has been spent so far this year on housing, food, medicine and security.
Charles Clifford, director of Customs and Border Control, said in a press release, that it was an expensive proposition for Cayman to handle such high numbers of arrivals, adding that he expects the influx of arrivals to continue.
A recent Compass analysis highlighted the situation and the reasons behind the increased arrivals.
