A third weather system located several hundred miles east-southeast of the Windward Islands has caught the attention of local and regional forecasters.

Hazard Management Cayman Islands, on Tuesday afternoon, advised that residents should be prepared and monitor forecasts issued by the Cayman Islands National Weather Service over the coming days.

This, as the National Hurricane Center (NHC) in Miami issued guidance on the large area of low pressure near the Windward Islands.

“The area of disturbed weather is currently disorganized but the NHC states that environmental conditions could become conducive for development in a few days,” HMCI said.

The NHC has given the system a formation chance through 5 days of 20%.

Two other systems are also being monitored on the weather radar.

Original story: After a relatively quiet couple of weeks, forecasters are now keeping a close watch on two weather systems churning in the central and eastern tropical Atlantic basin.

Though the systems, at this time, do not pose a threat to the Cayman Islands, residents should pay attention for further development.

The first system is located several hundred miles west of the Cabo Verde Islands in the central tropical Atlantic, according to the US National Hurricane Center’s Tuesday morning advisory.

It said shower activity remains minimal in association with this tropical wave.

“Development, if any, of this system is expected to be slow to occur during the next several days while the system moves westward to west-northwestward at 10 to 15 miles per hour across the tropical Atlantic.

The NHC gives this system a 10% chance of formation chance over five days.

Following close behind is another tropical wave in the eastern tropical Atlantic. This tropical wave is forecast to move off the west coast of Africa in a couple of days.

“Environmental conditions could support some slow development of this system late this week or over the weekend while it moves westward at 10 to 15 miles per hour,” the NHC said.

The system has a 20% chance of formation through five days.
