Strong winds and rough seas are expected to continue across the Cayman Islands over the next few days, according to the Cayman Islands National Weather Service.
The meteorological agency issued two ‘severe weather notifications’ on Tuesday, 24 Oct., aimed especially at captains of small vessels.
The first said strong northeast winds and rough seas are expected across Cayman as a strong high pressure system builds over the United States.
The high winds of 20-25 knots with higher gusts are expected to continue until Friday.

The second notification, which included a ‘small craft warning’, said rough seas are expected with waves of 6 to 8 feet until Friday.

Hurricane Tammy
Meanwhile, Category 2 Hurricane Tammy, which moved slowly across several islands in the eastern Caribbean earlier this week, is expected to weaken in the coming days.
The storm is travelling northwest at about 13 miles per hour and is expected to turn north later today, 25 Oct., before heading northwest.
Maximum sustained winds are at 105 mph with higher gusts, according to the US National Hurricane Center.
Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 25 miles from the storm’s centre and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 175 miles.
“Gradual weakening is expected for the next few days. Tammy is forecast to become a powerful post-tropical cyclone by Thursday,” the centre said in its public advisory.
The storm poses no threat to the Cayman Islands.
