A man was assaulted with a screwdriver at an Eastern Avenue parking lot in George Town before robbers made off with his car.
According to a police press release, just before midnight on Tuesday, 26 Dec., a driver parked his car near a commercial premises to eat and rest.
He fell asleep, but a disturbance woke him so he got out of his car to investigate. It was then that a man armed with a Phillips screwdriver attempted to enter the vehicle.
The victim intervened and the assailant attacked him with the screwdriver and a scuffle ensued, police said.
While the scuffle was taking place, a second person got in the vehicle and started the ignition.
The attacker ran to the car and managed to flee the scene inside with the other person, driving south on North Church Street.
According to police, the assailant was a young man with a dark complexion and two corn rows in his hair. The other person also had a dark complexion and corn rows.
Following the incident, police conducted a search and located the vehicle on Rock Hole Road in George Town.
A 34-year-old man from George Town who was seated inside the vehicle was arrested on suspicion of robbery. A second man fled the scene.
