Taste of Cayman is set to showcase a wave of local performers for this year’s food and drink festival, to be held 12-13 April, at Camana Bay’s Festival Green.

Before headline act, six-time Grammy-winning group Black Eyed Peas, takes to the stage, singer and musician Dan Ebanks will be one of just three local acts invited to play for the festival’s new, one-night-only concert on Friday 12 April, starting 7pm.

According to the Taste of Cayman website, Ebanks will be bringing a flavour of neo-soul and organic pop to the stage. Born and raised in the Cayman Islands, Ebanks has captivated audiences globally with his distinctive sound and unique performance style.

“Words can’t express how excited I am to play at Taste of Cayman again,” Ebanks told the Compass. “This year, I’ve put in about two months worth of rehearsal. Of course, opening for the Black Eyes Peas comes with just enough pressure to put on my best performance to date. Can’t wait to play!”

Along with Ebanks, The Neverines will be another opening concert pre-show feature, bringing a mix of rock and indie classics as well as original material. DJ RKM, known as the Nightlife Whisperer and the Mayor of West Bay Road, will be the last amuse-bouche before the headliners hit the stage.

In a promotional video on Taste of Cayman’s social media page, Black Eyed Peas’ rapper Taboo said they’re going to get the party started, “we’re bringing that indigenous excellence across the globe.”

According to a Taste of Cayman press release, “For over 20 years the Black Eyed Peas have released a string of worldwide hits, including ‘I Gotta Feeling’, ‘Boom Boom Pow’, ‘Rock That Body’, ‘Where is the Love’, and ‘Don’t Stop the Party’. Band members, Wil.i.am, Apl.de.ap, and Taboo have collaborated with successful artists such as Fergie, Justin Timberlake, Travis Barker, David Guetta, Shakira, and Jack Johnson. The band’s 2022 album ‘Elevation’ was a mix of pop, Latino, dance and house sounds with a 90’s and 2000’s feel.”

On Saturday, 13 April, a second wave of artists and musicians are on the lineup, including the Marie Martin Primary School choir, Julia Meyerhoff and Kharim Samuels, Radiance Dance Studio, Cayman Islands Folk Singers, Swanky Kitchen Band, DJ Urusai and Billy Corduroy, Rico Rolando, and DJ Mat Band and Laser Show.

Along with the flavour of music, the 2024 event will serve up some 30 food and drink vendors, mixology contests and food competitions, and demonstrations.

The festival, which has attracted more than 5,000 attendees each year, will also feature a firework display, a kids’ zone, and photo booth.
