The launch of Monday evening’s SpaceX Starship rocket in Texas delayed a Cayman Airways flight from Miami to Grand Cayman.
The rocket, the biggest and most powerful ever built, took off for a successful one-hour test flight at 6:25pm Cayman time from Starbase in Boca Chica in southern Texas.
Cayman Airways had earlier issued a public service announcement advising customers that the launch – SpaceX’s 11th – could temporarily affect one flight in the airline’s schedule.
Cayman Airways flight KX107 from Miami to Grand Cayman, which is scheduled to depart at 8:40pm Miami time (7:40pm Cayman time), took off at 9:20pm.
In its announcement, the airline had noted that, for safety, the US Federal Aviation Administration and Cuban aviation authorities was imposing short-term restrictions, which created no-fly zones over the Gulf of Mexico and the North-Western Caribbean during the rocket’s ascent and recovery phase.
