Police need help

What in the world is this once peaceful little island coming to?

Your 4 April front-page photo of two police officers in army boots, helmets, shades, masks and machine guns is most disturbing, yet when you think about it – a bit comical.

And, I might add, not the best public-relations look for the dwindling stay-over tourism.

So, it takes 10 armed officers, police dogs and full combat gear to protect one shackled prisoner? Or, are the Royal Cayman Islands Police attempting to send the public the following message: Hey, look, we know crime is up, but we’re tough guys.

Sorry, I don’t buy it.

Increase in police and security guards at the court house or hospital is simply not the answer to fix this problem. As the US Marines would say, ‘We need a few good men.’

I have seen RCIP officers ignore parents who don’t use seat belts on their children or ignore speeders in school zones. What are they going to do with a sub-machine gun and helmets? Man, this is scary!

The police commissioner may want to admit that the RCIP can’t handle the problems any more, bring in some outside pros and maybe consider proper education, training and common sense.
