Esso’s six-week promotional campaign last year over the December holiday season to assist the Cayman Islands Education Department with repairs and the purchase of school supplies post-Ivan has netted CI$14,715.
‘We are so pleased at the support that the Cayman community and our Esso drivers gave during this campaign,’ said Alan Neesome, Esso Country Manager. ‘The response was overwhelming and we are thrilled to be able to give these funds to such a worthy cause, the enrichment of our children’s education through the expression of music.’
The money received from Esso has been earmarked for the return of music to several schools, states a press release.
As a result of Hurricane Ivan, many schools suffered the loss of musical instruments, music books and even rooms in which to hold music lessons.
The annual National Children’s Festival of the Arts, the 22-year-old showcase for the children of the Cayman Islands had to be cancelled, disappointing many students who were going to display their talents in the areas of dance, vocal music, instrumental music, speech and drama, art and craft and creative writing.
The injection of funds from Esso will go toward getting the music programmes and the National Children’s Festival of the Arts back on track.
‘This gift from Esso will be used to purchase some of the musical instruments that were lost in the storm,’ said Mrs. Nyda Flatley, Chief Education Officer. ‘We are deeply grateful that Esso and its station managers thought of the Education Department when considering this campaign, and I thank them on behalf of the Department and our students.’
During the Help Us Help promotion, for every gallon spent on fuel at an Esso station, 3-cents was set aside for the Cayman Islands Department of Education to provide supplies and assistance for those schools, which were damaged during the storm.
