Education minister hits ground running

The newly appointed Minister for Education, Human Resources and Culture Alden McLaughlin discussed his future plans and hopes for the ministry at his first Heads of Departments meeting on Wednesday.

‘This is an opportunity for us to have a fresh start and I am excited at the prospect of doing something significant,’ he said.

‘This administration plans to make education a top priority, giving it the focus and impetus it deserves.

‘One of my first challenges is to obtain a clear understanding of how the ministry currently operates before making any move towards change. Over the next month, I hope to visit as many departments and schools as possible to achieve this goal, ‘he continued.

In addition to the focus on education, Mr. McLaughlin noted that Employment Relations will be one of the ministry’s key areas for development.

‘We need a modern framework to deal with employment relations in this country and I hope to introduce this as swiftly as possible,’ he said.
