Free Press celebrates 40 years

Public invited to Business after Hours

Cayman Free Press is opening its doors to the public Wednesday night in celebration of 40 years of publishing.

The Chamber of Commerce Business after Hours event will feature the Cayman Free Press Wednesday.

‘We’re taking this opportunity to work hand-in-hand with the Chamber of Commerce to welcome the public to our facilities to show them a little of what we do,’ said Cayman Free Press Editor Tammie C. Chisholm.

Those attending the 6-8pm Business after Hours event will get a glimpse of how the company is run, from a press run demonstration to talks with employees in various departments.

The main event will be held under a tent behind the Cayman Free Press building where visitors will be treated to hors d’oeuvres, drinks and speeches from Chamber of Commerce President Joseph Hew, former Governor Tom Russell and Cayman Free Press Managing Director and Caymanian Compass Publisher Brian Uzzell.

Visitors will be directed to park in the empty lot next to Butterfield Bank. Signs will be posted and traffic directors will be on site.

Bags filled with Cayman Free Press goodies bearing the company’s 40th Anniversary logo will be handed out and visitors will get a chance to win one of several door prizes, ranging from Jacques Scott gift baskets, Fosters shopping vouchers and the grand prize of flights to Miami, courtesy of Cayman Airways.

‘The ability to publish almost daily for 40 years for any newspaper is a major development in the industry, and especially in the Caribbean region,’ Mrs. Chisholm said. ‘We want to share our excitement and success with the community through Business after Hours.’

In addition to Business after Hours, Cayman Free Press has published a special commemorative edition of the Caymanian Compass looking back at 40 years of news and photos. The supplement will be handed out to those attending Business after Hours and will be inserted into Thursday’s edition of the newspaper. The actual anniversary date is 6 October.

Festivities continue with a formal dinner Thursday evening with invited guests at the Lighthouse Restaurant in Breakers to coincide with the opening of the newly refurbished restaurant following Hurricane Ivan.

Speakers include the Governor Mr. Bruce Dinwiddy and Leaders of Government Business Kurt Tibbetts. Invited guests include Jennifer Dilbert, former Governor Tom Russell, members of the Legislative Assembly and those closely associated with Cayman Free Press.

A party for staff will be held Friday night to thank them for their hard work and dedication.

On 21 and 22 October staff members of Cayman Free Press will be on Little Cayman and Cayman Brac so residents there can take part in the 40th anniversary celebrations.
