Attending high school graduations, visits with the Earl of Wessex, the opening of the Christopher Columbus Gardens and the great hospitality of the people are among the many special memories the Governor, Mr. Bruce Dinwiddy, and his wife, Emma Dinwiddy, will take home of the Sister Islands.
‘The people . . . have repeatedly extended marvellous hospitality to us,’ Mr. Bruce Dinwiddy said in a farewell address during his tour of the Sister Islands last weekend.
‘We are enormously grateful and are fortunate indeed to have had so many excuses to come here. We shall treasure so many special memories of the Sister Islands.’
The Governor and his wife – who have made nearly 20 visits to the Sister Islands – spent Friday and early Saturday saying good-bye to residents before they leave Cayman at the end of the month.
They spent time in Cayman Brac visiting schools, the Kirkconnell Community Care Centre and saying farewell to residents at a public gathering at the Aston Rutty Centre.
‘I need not tell you that the Brackers are very special people, and it is not surprising that you have built such a resilient community while also providing much more than your ‘fair’ share of outstanding Caymanians in Grand Cayman and the wider world,’ Mr. Dinwiddy said in his address.
In Little Cayman, the Governor and his wife visited the Little Cayman Museum before attending a farewell tea at the Little Cayman Trust House. Their farewell visit wrapped up Saturday morning with a tour of the Central Caribbean Marine Institute.
The Governor said it will likely be at least another year or two before they return but they know their successors, Stuart and Mariko Jack, will be in good hands.
‘We shall explain to them in London, in early November, why they should look so forward to their first visit to the Sister Islands.’
