Another milestone has been reached by BCQS as two of its directors are chosen to play key roles within the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, an international organisation with about 120,000 members in 120 countries.
The RICS is one of the most respected and high- profile global standards and membership organisations for professionals involved in land, property, construction and environmental issues, states a press release.
Sanjay Amin, director of BCQS Limited based in Barbados, has been elected to the Caribbean Board of the RICS. He was officially appointed to the board 20 October following elections at the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors annual general meeting in Toronto, Canada.
‘It is an honour to serve on the Caribbean Board of the RICS’, says Mr. Amin. ‘I am looking forward to using my many years of Caribbean property development experience to help guide the RICS as it contemplates how to best operate and grow in the Caribbean region. The Board’s intention is to represent the interests of Caribbean members and potential members within RICS, as well as to encourage surveyors in the region to join the Institute and become qualified chartered surveyors, and I am pleased to be able to play a role in fulfilling that mission.’
Mr. Amin has also been appointed as Assessment of Professional Competence assessor for the RICS, along with BCQS’s Liam Day, managing director of the BCQS Group. APC is the process by which the RICS ensures a member is competent to practice as a Chartered Surveyor. Assessors are trained to interview candidates undertaking their final assessment and are therefore required to meet stringent criteria established by the Education and Membership Committee and Practice Qualifications Group.
Mr. Day, based in the Cayman Islands, explains, ‘The RICS aims to maintain the highest standards of education and training, to protect consumers through strict regulation of professional standards and to be the leading source of information and independent advice on land, property, construction and associated environmental issues. As leading property consultants in the Caribbean region, BCQS is also committed to upholding the highest professional standards and Sanjay and I are delighted to have been called upon by the RICS to assist with their training and development needs.’
