Division One Cricket
Police stormed to the top of the Money Express Division One with a comfortable victory over Paramount at the JPO on Sunday.
Police batted first and some solid batting up front saw them to a respectable total of 223-5. The youthful but fast improving Ramon Sealy topped the batting with a classy 77. He was ably assisted by his senior partner Kirkpatrick Clarke who made 57, and number 3 batsman Alessandro Morris who got 57. The total could have more imposing had not the consistent Alan Playwright checked Police’s advance with 3-40. When Paramount replied they had to contend with some fiery bursts from Bryan, Basil and Spencer. Only Michael ‘Jonty Rhodes’ Reid mounted any resistance with a resolute 25.Top bowler for Police was Marlon Bryan who almost decapitated ‘ Mango Man ‘ in his hostile spell of 4-18.
At smith Road defending champions Prison waltz to a victory over Greenies in the other Division One match. Prison, lead by a stylish knock from new kid, Kerchand Dindyal (95) and typical bombast from Troy David (85) reached 227-7 in the allotted overs.
Greeenies were then undermined (77 all out) by some incisive fast medium bowling from Clive Petrie who sliced through the top order with 5-28. Kevin Basil helped himself to three wickets in the rout.
Division 2
When the Money Express Division Two competition resumed at Smith Road, Caledonian continued to impress with a comfortable victory over Greenies Too on Saturday. Greenies batted and compiled a respectable total of 174, thanks to Tim Bridges with 46, Dave Groves 23 and generosity from Caledonian team who concede 31 extras. Omar Swaby and Terry Nathan each got two wickets for Caledonian. Caledonian openers effectively quashed any hopes Greenies had of victory with an opening stand of 146. Neil De Vere was run out for 74 and Sam Suberan made 61. Giving away 25 wides further compounded Greenies woes.
Over at JPO, same day same competition, West Bay recovered from an unsatisfactory performance to defeat JJ Construction by 24 runs. West Bay batted first and made 135-8 due to joint top scores of 30 from Tony Higgins and Extras. Other useful knocks came from Zitroy Robinson (20) and Ali Ifill 19. Kernel Coley 3-21 and Devon Williams 2-18 combined to keep the ‘Bayer’
at bay. JJ had no response to the combined efforts of Morvin Brooks, Wayne Cato, Stedman Gray and Ali Ifill who each scalped two victims. However, some resistance came from Kernel Coley who stroked an attractive 30 and Joseph Bent who bludgeoned his way to 18.
