The CIFA U19 FA Cup final clash between Bodden Town FC and Elite SC on Sunday, 18 March, at the Annex will be dedicated to the memory of the late footballer, Davado McField.
Eighteen-year-old Davado passed away in a car accident in the early hours of 23 January after spending the previous day doing voluntary work at the East End Surf Challenge. As a youngster showing great promise for the future, he was one of the rising stars in Bodden Town FC and part of the U17 National Team until last year.
‘He was like a son to me. He was an outstanding player, he could play in any position, so skilled he was. He was also respectful, well mannered, with the biggest heart in the world,’ Coach Elbert McLean said, and added. ‘His passing has brought a lot of grief not only to me, but also to the club. It will be hard to find somebody like Davado’.
CIFA has also decided that the U19 Most Valuable Player award will carry Davado McField’s name to further honor his memory. CIFA President, Jeffrey Webb added, ‘He was a good player and a great person, a role model for all the youngsters in the Cayman Islands’.
Mrs. Evalee McField, mother of the late Davado McField was grateful for the CIFA gesture: ‘I want to thank the Association for being so thoughtful and naming this award after Davado. This means a great deal to me and my family and we will be there on Sunday to help present this award. Thank you’.
Chairman of CIFA Youth Committee, Mark Scotland said, ‘It will help to keep his memory alive and it will also help other players emulate Davado’s accomplishments. He was not only a great player but also a nice person. He was a member of the Scouts and used to do a lot of voluntary work on his free time. His passing has been a great loss to CIFA and our national team as well.’
