Dates have been announced and routes confirmed for the annual Batabano festival.

The junior parade is planned for Saturday, 28 April and the adult parade on Saturday, 5 May.

The adult parade will start at the Marquee Plaza on Lawrence Boulevard, and then head south on West Bay Road, straight into downtown. The parade route will continue down Fort Street, and past the Post Office to the junction of Shedden Road and Elgin Avenue, where it will take its final turn towards the waterfront.

The Junior Parade will begin at the Glass House on Elgin Avenue, turn left on Shedden Road, and proceed towards the waterfront. The Junior masqueraders will then turn right at Fort Street and head past the Post Office to the junction of Shedden Road and Elgin Avenue, and end their route at the Glass House.

Participants will then move straight into a family fun day with bouncy castle, cotton candy and prizes.

‘Last year’s historic launch of the first street parade dedicated solely for Cayman’s students and youth groups received overwhelming support,’ said Donna Myrie-Stephen, Cayman Carnival Batabano chairperson.

Following the parade, the Junior Song Competition will kick-off at 6pm, with first, second and third place winners receiving cell phones from Cable and Wireless. Trophies and studio recording time will also be awarded to the winners. Competitors will be required to perform one upbeat song with Caribbean flair.

Ms Myrie-Stephen added: ‘For the continued success of Cayman Carnival Batabano, and especially for our visitors, it is important that the parade route is maintained. It certainly is the most majestic parade route in the Caribbean and our participants, sponsors and spectators have come to totally enjoy this Seven Mile Beach platform.’
