Collin Ovid Scott, 36, appeared in Summary Court on Friday morning charged with murder.
He is accused of murdering Maureen Grant, 34, on Monday night, 9 July.
Crown Counsel Elisabeth Lees said Scott turned himself in that same night and had made various confessions since.
She told Magistrate Grace Donalds that police are endeavouring to get all the papers together and typed up in this matter so that it can be sent to Grand Court.
She asked that the matter be mentioned again on Thursday, 19 July, so that a date for preliminary inquiry could be set.
Defence Attorney Lloyd Samson agreed that both sides would be on a better position to fix a date on Thursday.
The magistrate remanded Scott in custody until then. She also approved his application for legal aid.
Ms Lees confirmed that Scott had been held at West Bay Police Station, but would be transferred to Northward Prison that day.
Ms Grant was found at her home in Erenette Lane, West Bay, suffering from what appeared to be several stab wounds. She was taken to hospital where she was pronounced dead.
It was reported after the incident that Scott also lived at the Erenette Lane residence.
